Professor Brian Prichard (MB BS, M.R.C.P., F.R.C.P., F.F.P.M., F.E.S.C., F.A.C.C.)
Professor B.N.C. Prichard qualified in medicine at St. George's University of London in 1957, having previously graduated BSc in Physiology and Masters in Pharmacology. After various posts in Medicine and Pharmacology he was appointed Consultant Physician at University College Hospital in 1973 and Professor of Clinical Pharmacology in 1980.
His research has been in the field of cardiovascular drugs with particular emphasis on the treatment of hypertension. He was awarded the Astra Prize in 1979 by the International Society of Hypertension for the introduction of beta blockers in the treatment of hypertension. He is the co-author of the reference work, "Beta Blockers in Clinical Practice." Professor Prichard has been visiting professor at various institutes including the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University and he also an honorary member of the Indian Pharmacological Society.
Professor Prichard has been involved in various societies and was the foundation secretary of the Clinical Section of British Pharmacological Society. In 2001 he was elected President of the International Society of Cardiovascular Therapy.
At present, Professor Prichard is a governor for the Ashcroft Technology Academy (formerly known as ADT College) as an LEA representative, and also serves as a consultant for Richmond Pharmacology Ltd.
Professor Prichard's major publication work has been the book 'Beta Blockers in Clinical Practice' with Dr J.M. Cruickshank, a second edition published in 1994.
