St. George's Hospital Medical School

St. George's Hospital Medical School is the only independent Medical School in the United Kingdom.

Famous names to have graced the halls of this long standing establishment include Edward Jenner (discovery of the small pox vaccine) and John Hunter (the pioneer of modern surgery).

Today the Medical School boasts over 30 academic and administrative departments, 1,000 employees and more than 1,500 students. Clinical research is on-going in the departments of Biomics, Oncology, Paediatrics, Renal Medicine, Vaccinology, Neurology, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The departments of Cardiac and Vascular Sciences and Infectious Diseases have been flagged as centres of excellence.
